Entsumpfung

‚Wir haben uns zur Befriedung der Menschheit entschlossen, vier Tage in das Gewölbe niederzusteigen. (Wo selbst wir uns einmauern lassen). Drei Tage schrankenlose Enthemmung, Befreiung von aller Brunst, Transponierung derselben in Blech, Schrott, verwesenden Abfällen, Fleisch, Blut, Gerümpel (…)‘ Manifest ‚Blutorgel‘ 1962, Otto Muehl

Entsumpfung

June 1st 1962. In Otto Muehl‘s studio in Perinetgasse 1 (Vienna, 20th district), the action-like event ‚Blutorgel‘ happens, with Adolf Frohner, Hermann Nitsch and Otto Muehl introducing Viennese Actionism (VA). Within the transgression of the two dimensional panel painting and the utilization of human bodies as material, VA was a movement that reflected possible processes of change in society as a whole, through radical actions provoking abreaction, catharsis and cure.

Entsumpfung

November 21st 2014. Within ‚ENTSUMPFUNG‘ Nicole Prutsch stages her work of the uncovering of the Perinetkeller, after a one-year processing and the reconstitution of its original state: a relic of VA transposed into a present in the focus of the extension of societal norms and the expansion of mechanisms of (self-) control, the abundance of possibilities, social distance-codes and general un-provokability.
